Curious George Birthday Party

I admit it. I am a bit of a nut about serving healthy food at birthday parties.  I love to make up mouth-watering, colourful vegetable and fruit platters as an alternative to the usual junk food that frequently graces the party table.

At this time of the year finding high quality fruits and vegetables at reasonable prices is a challenge.  Enter the trusty banana!!  And who better to promote it?  Why at a Curious George Birthday Party, of course!

Bananas are a nutritional diamond at rhinestone prices

According to TIME magazine, bananas are known for their high potassium content. A medium fruit has 422 mg potassium, 12% of the daily total recommended by the US Food and Drug Administration.

A medium banana has 102 calories, 17% of recommended daily vitamin C and 3 grams of fiber. It also has 27 grams of carbohydrates (and 14 grams of sugar). “Many of my patients are fearful of this fruit due to its high carbohydrate content,” says Kristin Kirkpatrick, registered dietitian and manager of Wellness Nutrition Services at Cleveland Clinic’s Wellness Institute. Her advice: slice a banana in half and pair it with a fat, like peanut or almond butter, to lessen its effects on blood sugar and insulin.  Peanut or almond butter and bananas...what a combo!

In addition, bananas are a very good source of vitamin B6 and a good source of manganese, vitamin C, dietary fiber, biotin, and copper.  Did I mention how inexpensive they are?

Curious George is the poster boy for party bananas

A Curious George themed birthday party provides the perfect backdrop for a banana extravaganza.

Here are some great (recipe) ideas I've assembled from Pinterest and other resources:
